CreateIdealistNews recently carried a story about CarrotMobs (http://vimeo.com/925729?pg=embed&sec=), an international phenomenon of groups banding together in a vow of supporting local vendors. I became intrigued...And obsessed! My goal is to research existing CarrotMobs and then to promote them through Twitter and other social media network methods. Then, I want to begin forming my own CarrotMob in Washington, DC when I return to the States in December!

A great way to reduce the waste I create by composting in a big plastic bin in my backyard. It is cheap! and less nitrogen and carbon is released when my food waste goes back into the land rather than stuck in a landfill producing toxins!
Today I read Idealist's beautiful blog post on how to make a long-term philanthrophy plan. Here is the website: http://www.idealist.org/if/i/en/h/blog/do-a-little-bit-more--become-a-philanthropist. It is just so easy to do if you sit down and write down what you most care about and how you plan to give, whether through time and/or through money. and make a long-term commitment to following through with this every year, increasing your generosity in the years when you have more available resources. This is something we can all do!!
Madidi Travel was created to protect and regenerate an area of Amazon Rainforest that was being logged, hunted and over-utilised by irresponsible tour operators, leading to over-fishing and damage to this fragile and beautiful ecosystem. We promote other responsible eco-tour operators in Bolivia so people coming to view this amazing country to do so with the most minimal impact possible, and even contribute to conservation efforts. We need some-one who has administrative experience to help us with the smooth running of our La Paz office. Smack Bang in the middle of the vibrant and fascinating witches market, your experience will ensure we can deliver on our mission to support the conservation of the madidi mosaic, and assist others who are doing the same throughout Bolivia.

Join us at our protected sanctuary, Serere to help with our regeneration efforts. We need people with great management skills (who can speak Spanish) to work with our team and co-ordinate our efforts in the Sanctuary. You will also go with tour groups as a translator and have the opportunity to learn, and teach others, from our indigenous guides who are incredibly knowleadgeable about the jungle. Experience working with other cultures is very important to this position, as is the ability to speak Spanish, and good management skills. These positions need a time commitment of at least 6, and preferably 12 months. We can help you organise the appropriate visa.
